What is high fever in babies?

A fever is a rectal temperature above 100.4AdegF or 38AdegC. A fever is usually a sign your baby is fighting an infection.

The opposite is true: What temperature is considered dangerous for a baby's health?

If your child is less than 3 months old, a temperature of 100.4AdegF is not a concern. A child's immune system may not be ready to fight infection in infanthood, so it is important that you see a doctor if your baby has a fever.

What is a low-grade fever in babies, other than the above? Low-grade fever in children and adults is when your body temperature is slightly higher than normal. This ranges between 98.8AdegF (37.1AdegC), and 100.6AdegF (38AdegC). If your baby is less than 3 months old and the rectal temperature is 100.4AdegF (38AdegC), you should immediately seek medical attention.

You may also be asked, "When should you worry about your baby's fever?"

Fever. For any fever, contact your doctor if your baby younger than 3 months. Contact the doctor if your baby is between 3 and 6 months old, has a temperature of 102 F (38.1 C), or seems sick (or has a temperature greater than 102 F (38.1 C), and has not been able to sleep.

Do I allow my child to sleep with a fever?

Fever is an increase in body temperature beyond the normal. The academy recommends that parents not awaken a child who is asleep to administer fever medication. Sleep is essential for the healing process.
