What is an acceptable anchorage point in a fall protection system?

Personal fall arrest equipment shall attach to anchorages that can support at least 5,000 pounds (22.2kN) per employee. Or, the anchorages must be designed, installed and used in a complete personal arrest system with a minimum safety factor of two.

It is also important to understand what an anchorage point is.

Anchor point or anchorage is one component of a personal falls arrest system (PFAS). It is intended to protect workers from injury if they fall at work. This is the location at which an anchoring device can be attached, fastened to, tied, or connected to a support area.

The question then is: What is the minimum rating required for climbing? According to the rule, the anchor must be capable of supporting 5,000 pounds per person or it will not work.

It is also important to understand what the OSHA requirements are for fall protection.

OSHA demands that Fall Protection be installed at an elevation of four feet in general industry places, five feet in shipyards and six feet in construction industries, and eight feet for longshoring operations.

What are the four methods of fall protection?

There are four categories of fall protection that are generally accepted: fall elimination (or prevention), fall arrest (or administrative controls), and fall prevention (or prevention). According to the US Department of Labor falls account for 8% of all work-related injuries that can lead to death.
