Does DGL raise blood pressure?

Yes. Yes. Glycyrrhizinic Acid is found in licorice. This causes a chain reaction of biochemical reactions in the body that results in high blood pressure.

Another question is: Can DGL cause high blood pressure

Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (or DGL) is one of my favorite foods. Now we know that the glycyrrhizin found in licorice root can lead to hypertension and edema. It may also affect a hormonal component of our kidney regulation called aldosterone.

Similar to the above, how much DGL should you consume in a single day? DGL should not contain more than 2 percent of glycyrrhizin. This is the best form to use for symptoms such as gastrointestinal problems. DGL can be purchased in capsules, chewable tablets, tea, or powder. Do not consume more than 5g of DGL daily.

What are the side effects associated with DGL?

The most common side effects of licorice are:

  • Absence of menstrual periods
  • Congestive heart failure.
  • Diminished sexual interest (libido).
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Excessive fluid in the lungs (pulmonary embolism)
  • Retention of sodium and fluid.
  • Headache.
  • Hypertension is high blood pressure

Is DGL good for the esophagus

A 2014 study found that DGL promotes mucus activity. The extra mucus can act as a barrier against acid in the stomach and Esophagus. This barrier can help the affected tissue heal, and prevent acid reflux from occurring again. DGL proved to be more effective than acid-suppressive medications in a 2018 study.
