What is a photocell receptor?

Photo Cell Twistlock Receptacle. Photocell Twistlock is a device that controls light fixtures. It turns them off during daylight and on at night. Photo Cells can save you money and ensure that you never have to turn on the lights again when it gets dark.

What is photocell control, you ask?

You can use photocells or motion sensors to control indoor and outdoor lighting. These sensors increase safety and security in your home by automatically turning on lights when it is darkening or detecting motion. These sensors also help to save energy by switching off unnecessary light.

Can one photocell control multiple light fixtures? One photocontrol device can control multiple circuits. You can have one photocell that controls all outdoor fixtures, such as parking lot lights and wall packs, on either the north or south-facing wall of a building.

How does a photocell work?

Photocells are resistors that change resistance depending on how much light is incident on them. Photocells work on semiconductor photoconductivity. The energy of photons hitting a semiconductor releases electrons, decreasing resistance.

Are LED lights compatible with special photocells?

Despite only one data point, I believe that LEDs should not be used in fixtures with photocells. The current flows constantly through the bulbs and it is therefore not recommended. Because the photocell needs energy to distinguish daylight from night, it requires some energy.
