Can African violets live outside?

African violets are a tropical plant from East Africa. They are great indoor plants because of this. They won't thrive outside in most U.S. conditions as well as normal violet plants. These plants can be purchased almost anywhere, even in grocery stores or garden centers.

Do African violets require direct sunlight in this instance?

They can thrive indoors in bright to indirect light. Even if all of the necessary nutrients are available, starvation can occur if there is no sunlight.

Another question that may be asked is, "How do you get the African violet to flower again?" An African violet will bloom when it is humid. African violets thrive in high humidity and flowers best. Fill the tray with water and place a tray of gravel, small stones, pebbles, perlite, or sand underneath the plant's container. As the water evaporates, the humidity around the plant rises.
