Is Epogen possible to be given at-home?

These instructions are for those who have been trained to administer Epogen injections at-home. You should not administer the injection to yourself unless you have been trained by your healthcare provider. Ask your healthcare provider if you are unsure about how to give the injection, or if you have any questions.

Where can you inject Epogen in this area?

You can inject Epogen directly into the fat layer under your skin. This is known as a subcutaneous inject. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding changing the site for each subcutaneous injection. It is possible to keep track of the injection site.

Epogen treatment should be started when the hemoglobin level is below 10 g/dL. Epogen should only be started if the hemoglobin is below 10 g/dL. Reduce or stop using Epogen if the hemoglobin levels are higher than 10 g/dL. For pediatric patients, 50 Units/kg should be administered intravenously or subcutaneously 3 times per week.

How do you administer epoetin in this way?

The Epoetin Alfa injection products are available as a liquid solution. They can be injected subcutaneously (just below the skin) or intravenously. It is typically injected once to three times per week.

What is the shelf life of Epogen at room temperature?

Dilutes of 1:10 or 1:20 (1 Part epoetin Alfa:19 Parts sodium chloride) remain stable for 18 hours at Room Temperature (Ohls 1996).
