Do I need Ditra matting?

DITRA Matting is suitable for a variety of surfaces including concrete, mortar screeds (gypsum-based screeds), radiant heated screeds (radiant heated screeds) and masonry/mixed substrates. DITRA Matting can be used to install underfloor heating. It acts as a decoupling layer between tiles and underfloor heating.

This being said, what's the point of Ditra matting anyway?

DITRA and DITRA-XL are made of polyethylene. They act as waterproofing layers to protect moisture-sensitive substrates like plywood/OSB. The matting's underside provides moisture and vapor pathways that prevent damage to the tile layer.

The next question is: What is the orange stuff underneath tile? ditra

Hence, is it possible to lay Ditra matt on floorboards

The timber floor was made from planked floorboards that were approximately one inch thick and eight inches in width, which were then just butted together. The substrate must be able to support the weight of the tiled floor. SchlA 1/4 TerA(r) - DITRA 25 can be applied directly on any timber, including plywood or chipboard.

Do I choose Ditra or cementboard?

1. Ditra can be waterproof while cementboard allows water to pass through, but it won't cause any damage. The cementboard tile is mortared on the cementboard while the cementboard is mortared on the substrate. This creates a chemical bond. Ditra enthusiasts argue that this makes the tile more stable against movement.
