Black or graywater

Similarly, my water is turning GREY.

Fungal growth could also cause gray colors. Gray slime is produced by fungi, which are not usually found in the water supply. However, they are common inside your home. They can form a gray- or white-colored fungal colony if they are allowed to land on damp surfaces such as a faucet or showerhead.

GREY water systems are also legal. Greywater systems for residential use that comply with the guidelines are legally allowed without the need to pay fees or inspect the system.

Is gray water considered dangerous in this context?

Graywater, also known as agreywatera, can carry bacteria and viruses making it unfit for drinking. Greywater is not potable. It can however be used to flush toilets or for irrigation.

How can you treat GREY water at your home?

Greywater:

  1. Reduce the use of chemicals. When possible, use natural cleaning products.
  2. Low or no sodium detergents, soaps, and shampoos are recommended.
  3. Use a lint filter. To ensure that water flows through the filter easily, clean it and replace it as needed.
  4. Do not flush household chemicals into the sink.
