Can you vent a dryer vertically?

DEAR BOB: Vertical dryer vents are often a problem as they act as moisture condensers. The outside air from the attic cools the sheet metal duct. The duct's moisture can also collect lint which causes a thicker layer of lint on the vent surface. This reduces dryer efficiency.

How far can you vent your dryer vertically?

Dryer Vent Vertically to Attic. I would like to move my GE Dryer(Model # DPSB620ECS). It will be required venting horizontally up (8 ft) to the attic. Once inside the attic, the vent will rotate 90 degrees and run horizontally (8 ft) from the outside roof eave to an opened grille.

The next question is how can you vent a dryer through a ceiling? You will connect the dryer to the roof vent using 4-inch metal conduit pipe. Use tin snips to cut the pipe and then fit it together with all the fittings. To run the duct through your attic, you may need to make a cut in the ceiling.

Also, do you prefer to vent your dryer up or down?

Most cases, one needs to simply check the air flow for any noticeable changes and then get into the habit cleaning the lint filter prior to using the dryer. I would choose to go down. It is not the air that is the problem, but the lint. Pushing it up will require more pressure from the dryer.

Can dryer vent touch the wood?

Yes. It's safe. Direct wood contact is safe as the operating temperature of a dryer vent does not pose a danger. Clear the vent so there is no chance of a fire. Make sure all joints are foil-taped to prevent lint from escaping the pipe.
