What distance can a span of 2x6x12 be?

Deck Joist Spacing
How can I keep them even? In general, joists placed 16 inches apart on center can span 1.5x their depth in feet. A 2x8 can span up to 12 feet, 2x10 to 15ft and 2x12-18ft. The joists will be larger if the deck is larger.

A beam can span a distance of about 900m without support.

Double ply beams can span 12 feet when supporting joists with no overhang beyond beam. Their length is equal to their depth in inches. A double beam of 2x12 can span 12 feet, while a (2) 2x10 beam can span 10 feet.

What size lumber is suitable for 20-foot spans? Re: 20-foot clearspan beam size. In this case, you will need a 12-16 inch GLULAM or LVL to span the 20'. You can also use 2x8-10 dimensional lumber 16”OC as floor joists.

Also, without support, how far can a span of 2x4 be?

You can use 2x8's, or you can skip building it. It will slide. A 2x4 maximum span is 5ft with a 20 pound dead weight.

Can a 2x6 span 14 ft?

Although I'm not an engineer, the Building Codes for a 2x6 wouldn't support a 14 foot span with no column support. A Bearing Wall is required to support the support. TOP CHOICE Wood..a two-by six would support a 12'6" span on 12" center. However, your regular Home Depot wood would only support an 11'6" span with 12" center.
