What are the elements compounds?

There are four types compounds . They are based on how constituent atoms are held together. These include molecules held together with covalent bonds.

How many compounds are there, then?

There are over nine million organic compounds due to the many ways carbon can bond with other elements and itself. Inorganic compounds are compounds that aren't considered organic (see below, Inorganic compound).

Where can you find elements and compounds? The Earth's crust contains many elements. Most of these elements can be found in combination with other elements to make compounds. The compounds and elements that are naturally found in the Earth's crust are called minerals. Rocks are made up of mixtures of minerals.

This begs the question: What elements are in each compound?

Compounds

Compound name Combination formula There are elements
carbon dioxide CO2 Carbon (C) and oxygen(O)
sodium chloride NaCl Chlorine (Cl), sodium (Na), and sodium (Na).
sodium hydroxide NaOH Sodium (Na), oxygen, and hydrogen (O)
calcium chloride CaCl2 Calcium (Ca), and chlorine (Cl).

What are the three types of compounds?

The majority of types of compounds are classified in one of the three categories, ionic compound, molecular compound, and acids.

A Binary Compound

  • Metal + Metal = Metallic compound.
  • Metal + non-metal = Ionic compound.
  • Non-Metal + Non-Metal = Covalent compound.
