Vidaza chemotherapy is it?

This medication is used for the treatment of a group blood/bone marrow disorders called myelodysplastic Syndromes-MDS. In these cases, the bone marrow doesn't produce enough healthy cells. MDS patients often experience problems like anemia, infections, and easy bleeding/bruising. Azacitidine can be used as a chemotherapy drug.

The most common side effects of Vidaza are:

  • Injection site reactions (redness and pain, bruising, irritation)

  • weakness,
  • diarrhea,
  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • anxiety,
  • trouble sleeping (insomnia),

You may also be wondering how long Vidaza can be taken. Each day you receive treatment for one week, followed by three weeks of no treatment. Each treatment cycle is a series of treatments. Usually, you have at least 6 cycles. The treatment can continue for as many days as long as it is effective. It can be taken every day for up to 5 days.

What is the cost of Vidaza?

VidazaA(r), with a maximum cost of $114,300, is an average annual cost. Only Health Canada's Special Access Program (SAP) allows access to the drug.

How does Vidaza get administered?

VIDAZA solution can be administered intravenously. Take the entire dose for a time of between 10 and 40 minutes. Within one hour of reconstitution of VIDAZA vial, the administration must be complete.
