There are approximately 280 varieties of hawthorn. Most are shrubs. The average tree-sized hawthorn can grow up to 25 feet in height. Most hawthorn trees can be found in temperate regions of North America, Europe and Asia. However, there are some thornless varieties.



What are the uses of hawthorn trees?

Washington hawthorn trees can be considered specimens and the foliage of Washington hawthorn trees is dense enough to use as privacy screens if they are grown in large numbers. Some homeowners use their sharp thorns to make security hedges.

Similar to the height of hawthorn trees, There are hundreds of varieties of Hawthorn (Crataegus), a beautiful deciduous tree which belongs to the rose family. While most varieties reach maturity heights between 15 and 30 feet, some are suitable for planting as shrubs. Others can reach 45 feet.

So, how does a hawthorn tree look?

Hawthorn has been used for hedging purposes since ancient times. The height of mature trees is approximately 15m. They are distinguished by their dense, thorny habit. However, they can also grow small trees with just one stem. The bark is brown-grey with knots and fissures, while the twigs are thin and brown, covered in thorns.
