Should rim joists be doubled?

Due to the small distances between supports, a double rim joist is not an advantage in the OP's case. This is normal. Doubling the rims will provide more support, but if it's not necessary, why bother? I prefer a breadboard effect.

Similar to the above, it is asked if rim joists should be doubled.

5. This means that the RIM joint must be doubled. To carry the bearing load, doubles the rimjoist. However, a Rim Joist doesn’t span any distance and only transfers the load to the plate. I have never seen rim joists doubled.

What is a rim joint? A rim joist is used to frame a deck or floor system. It is attached perpendicularly to the joists and provides lateral support for their ends. It is also known as a header (other framing components can also be called header) or rim board.

People often ask if rim joists are load bearing.

A rim joist is also known as a band joist and serves the main purpose of providing lateral support for the joints to prevent them from sagging under the weight of the load-bearing walls. The rim joist covers the ends of joists to seal the joist cavities (the open spaces between the joints).

How do you join two Rim Joists?

The most common method is to put the rims together on a floor joint and then use nails at the rim ends at an angle into the floor joint. To give you more space to nail to, you can attach blocks measuring 12-16 inches to the floor joist.
