Is it possible to drill Silestone?

Silestone is a quartz-hard material that requires drilling bits that are more difficult than the quartz material. Even with the best drill bit, heat can build up and cause damage to expensive countertops or tiles.

Can you drill into quartz, just as it is?

With a hardness level of seven, quartz exceeds standard drill bit capabilities. The heat generated by friction can break the quartz crystal. A drill bit that is made of a harder material than quartz is required to drill a hole in the quartz.

You might also be interested in drilling granite using a masonry bit. A masonry bit is designed to drill into concrete, stone, and masonry. It comes with a different tip from a regular wood/metal bit. I have been drilling holes of 1" diameter to 6" deep in solid granite. You don't need a hammer drill.

Can you also cut Silestone as mentioned above?

Silestone is a combination of quartz and resins. It's a hard countertop material which dulls cutting blades that are designed to cut metal or wood. A specialized cutting tool combined with a lubricant will allow you to cut straight through Silestone countertops.

How can you drill into quartz backsplash?

Start drilling into quartz by setting the speed of your rotary tool to normal to medium speed. To drill a straight hole, the bit must be held at a 90-degree angle. Just enough pressure is needed to allow the rotary tool to do its job. Keep drilling while you cool the stone. Then, rinse the bit with cold water.
