How can I use Aspera to transfer files?

Connect defaults to downloading the files to the user's desktop. You can change this setting in the Connect preferences window (Menu bar > AsperaConnect > Preferences). Select the Download rule section and specify the path to download the files.

How do you use Aspera, then?

Launch Aspera Connect to configure Aspera Connect. Go to Menu bar-> Aspera Connect-> Preferences. The General tab allows you to indicate how you would like to launch Aspera connect and the Transfer Manager window. The Transfers tab includes the download folder settings and the retry rule settings.

The next question is: What ports does Aspera use?

  • One SSH server is run by an Aspera server on a configurable port (22 default for Aspera Server 2.6.1 and 33001 default for Aspera Server 22.7).
  • Allow inbound connections to fasp transfer that uses UDP/33001 default, although the server might also want to use another port.
