Where do germ cells come from?

The germ cells of many animals originate in the primitive streak. They then migrate through the embryo's gut to the developing gonads. They undergo meiosis and then cellular differentiation to mature gametes.



How are germ cells created?

The germ cells divide to produce male and feminine gametes, sperm, and unfertilized egg (oocytes or an ova), and then undergo meiosis in order to create a haploid set chromosomes. The haploid gametes combine to create a diploid embryo that becomes a new person.

Are Germ Cells Stem Cells? Embryonic germ cell: When germ cells turn into stem cells. Embryonic embryo germ cells are pluripotent cells that have been derived from primordial cells. (PGCs). PGCs are the progenitors for adult gametes. They diverge from the somatic lineage that runs from late embryonic to early foetus development.
