When was a reflecting pool constructed?

Henry Bacon designed the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It was built in 1922-1923 following the dedication to the Lincoln Memorial. It measures approximately 2,029 feet (618m), which is more than a third mile, and 167ft (51m) in width.

This is why Reflecting Pool is illegal.

Due to increased criticism from black leaders, and concerns about the health of the water, Congress decided to ban swimming at the Tidal Basin. This was done in 1925. Although swimming was not allowed in the Reflecting pool, there were white-only pools nearby the Washington Monument in the 1920s.

You might also wonder how deep the water is in front of Lincoln Memorial. It can be found on the West side of the National Mall and measures approximately 2,029 feet (618m) in length and 167ft (51m) wide. It measures 18 inches ( 46cm) in depth on the sides, and 30 inches ( 76cm) in the middle. It can hold approximately 6,750,000 gallons (25,000,000 L) of water.

What's the purpose of the Reflecting Pool

Reflecting pools are water features without fish, plants, waterfalls, or fountains. They can be made to blend in with natural or formal gardens.
