What thickness is a plaster-lath wall?

Traditional 3-coat plaster is 7/8a3 thick. Add 1/4a3 wood lath to support the plaster wall and you get a wall that is over 1a3. This is quite a contrast to the 1/2a3 drywall thickness that we have today.

What thickness should wall plaster be?

The average thickness is 12mm. Smoothness is achieved by the skim (finish coat). Applying a skim coat with finish plaster will give you a smooth finish. The backing coat is then covered with the skim coat. It should be a thickness of 2 to 3 mm.

Should I also replace plaster and lath with drywall? It is best to only replace lath and plaster walls with drywall when it is necessary. Minor problems with plaster and lath walls can be repaired, and DIY work is possible.

How thick is a plaster and lath ceiling?

For plaster on gypsum boards (rock lath), the minimum thickness is one inch. The minimum thickness for metal lath is 5/8 inches, and wood lath is 3/4 to 7/8 inches.

How can I tell if my wall has plaster or lath?

Take out a switch plate to inspect the wiring. If you can see glue, then your walls are plaster . Your walls will most likely be drywall if the wiring is protected by an electrical box.
