What do you even need to make resin art?

What do you need?

  1. toothpicks.
  2. resin (here's my stash)
  3. Ice cream sticks
  4. Heat gun (I bought mine from Hobby Lobby for $13, with their 40% off coupon. You can find the coupon here.
  5. Acrylic paint (here's my source of paint)
  6. Spray paint, gold pigment, or enamel paint were all options. In my case, I used small model car enamel paints.

Why is resin so expensive? Because of its strength and requirements, epoxy is usually more expensive than resin. Resin has a lower price and is therefore more popular in craft and jewelry-making. However, you only get what you pay. Epoxy is extremely resistant to moisture and some formulations can be used underwater.

This being said, what is resin art made from?

Epoxy resins consist of two components: resin and hardener. Mixing the two components causes a chemical reaction that results in the liquid resin slowly hardening to a solid material. This results in a clear, high-gloss surface.

Is it possible to mix acrylic paint and resin?

Acrylic paints can be used to create amazing colors by painting with resin. Use liquid acrylics according to the 1 to 10, ratio rule. mix 1 parts acrylic paint and 10 parts epoxy. Your resin may not pour well if you use too many paints.
