Pilomyxoid is an astrocytoma?

Low-grade pediatric gliomas, pilocytic/pilomyxoid. Astrocytes, a type "glial" cells that support the neurons in the brain, are called "glial". The largest category of brain cancers is those that look like astrocytes. They are called astrocytomas.

What is Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma?

The pilomyxoid and astrocytomas (PMAs) are brain tumors that have similar features to the pilocytic Astrocytomas(PAs), which are the most prevalent central nervous system (CNS,) tumors in children.

What is a Pxa tumour? Pleomorphic and benign brain tumors (PXA), are rare and benign. They likely result from astrocytes. These cells make up the support network for the brain. It is astrocytoma which is a type glioma.

It is also important to understand what cerebellar astrocytoma is.

Childhood cerebellar tumor is a condition in which malignant or benign cells develop in the brain tissues. Astrocytomas form from brain cells known as astrocytes. Cerebellar tumors are found in the cerebellum. It is located at the back of the brain.

WHO 2016 CNS Tumor Classification

According to the 2016 CNS WHO, oligoastrocytoma should not be diagnosed. Nearly all tumors that have histological characteristics that suggest both an astrocytic or an oligodendro-glial component can either be classified as astrocytoma (44, 48) or oligodendroglioma (48).
