My cedar chest smells like mothballs.

The mothball chemicals are meant to evaporate and condense clothing that is stored in the chest. However, they also condense in wood which is porous and oily. This is why cedar chests protect clothing. It takes time for the chemicals vaporize again and to leave the wood.

How do you make cedar chests smell like mothballs?

Coffee grounds, coffee grounds, crushed newspaper or fabric softener sheets might work. I would suggest boiling some baking soda in hot water, and then wiping the chest's sides, lid, and bottom with it. Take it to my home. It won't bother your nose!

What is the reason my cedar chest smells? Any piece of wood furniture can smell bad if it is exposed to excessive moisture or humidity. Vacuum the inside of the chest and wipe the outside and inside with a lint free dust cloth. A screened porch helps to keep the box clean. Musty odors will be banished by the fresh air and sunlight.

How can you get the mothball scent out of your chest, other than what I have already said?

Place a bag of charcoal barbecue briquettes into a large, disposable aluminum cake pan. Place the pan in chest, and let it sit for one week. Remove any odors from the pan and replace them with new charcoal. This will absorb any toxins and smells that may have been caused by moth balls.

How can you make a cedar chest cigarette-like?
