How does hemlock wood look?

Sapwood is narrow and pale in colour. The heartwood usually has a reddish-brown hue. It is difficult to distinguish between the sapwood, and the heartwood. The wood is usually straight-grained and has an even density. However, the texture of the wood can vary from coarse to fine.

Another question that might be asked is "What kind of wood is Hemlock?"

Pricing/Availability: Eastern Hemlock is one of the two primary commercial species of hemlock harvested in North Americaawith the other being Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla). Hemlock is a popular construction timber and is readily available. Hemlock is a domestic softwood with moderate prices.

Is Hemlock also a strong wood? Hemlock is very stable. Its tannin content makes it resistant to insect attack and more long-lasting for outdoor use. Hemlock logs can be stored in log yards for many years before being cut.

This is why hemlock wood can be used for almost anything.

Eastern hemlock wood is light in weight, medium in hardness, coarse grained and uneven in texture. It can also be inclined to splinter if machined. Eastern hemlock is moderately weak in bending strength, shock resistance, and can be used for light framing and sheathing.

Hemlock wood is strong!

Wood is rough and uneven in texture. It is moderately stiff, moderately strong, and moderately tough. The relative hardness rating for this wood is 500 when it is dry and 400 when it's green. Hemlock is used in timber framing, general framing, as well as the production of boxes, pallets and crates.
