Golden Gate Park allows dogs

Golden Gate Park Dog Rules: It is almost forbidden for dogs to roam freely in large meadows without a leash. dogs cannot be leashed or unleashed in the Big Rec area, where there are athletic fields. All dogs must be supervised at all times.

Are pets permitted at Muir Woods, too? Muir Woods does not allow pets. It is small and can be very crowded. We recommend that you take your pet to nearby areas like Muir Beach's Coastal Trail, or the Marin Headlands Trail where they are allowed.

In 1970, the City of San Francisco made substantial land donations to create the 80,000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The GGNRA is a valuable resource for Bay Area dog owners. It allows canine companions to be on leash or under voice command on many trails.

Marin Headlands Dogs are not permitted south of Tennessee Valley Road.
