Do mucomyst need to be administered with a bronchodilator or mucomyst?

{Note: Acetylcysteine can irritate the airways and induce bronchospasm when given by inhalation; therefore, it should be administered simultaneously with or following administration of an inhaled beta-adrenergic bronchodilator 02 07 09.|Notice: Acetylcysteine inhaled can cause bronchospasm and irritation to the airways. It should therefore be administered in conjunction with or after inhaled beta-adrenergic brochodilator 020709.}

Also, mucomyst can be taken with albuterol

There were no interactions between albuterol (Mucomyst) and any other medications. This does NOT necessarily mean that there are no interactions. Always consult your healthcare provider.

How should Acetylcysteine also be administered? N-acetylcysteine should only be administered intravenously using Glucose 5% infusion fluid. If Glucose 5 is not available, Sodium Chloride 0.9% may be used. Use an appropriate infusion pump to administer doses.

How do you use a mucomyst with a nebulizer?

Use 3 to 5 mL (mL), of a 20% solution, or 6-10 mL (mL), of a 10% solution in a nebulizer at least three to four times per day. The medication is administered through a tracheostomy, mouthpiece or face mask. You can inhale the 10-20% solution in a tent, croupette or as a heavy mist.

What is mucomyst?

Paracetamol overdose can be treated by increasing levels of glutathione. This antioxidant is able to neutralise toxic paracetamol breakdown products. It acts by decreasing the thickness mucus when inhaled. Acetylcysteine, which was first patented in 1960, was approved for medical use in 1968.
