Silk moths may be the most harmless creature on Earth. While some caterpillars can be venomous with spines and hairs that can cause severe irritation, the Luna moth caterpillar appears to not to be one of these. At every stage, Lunas are completely safe. They are safe to eat.

The question also arises, "Are moths poisonous?"

Potentially poisonous butterflies and moths can be dangerous for people if they are eaten. Most butterflies and moths will not be toxic to humans but some species, such as the monarch butterfly (Family Nymphalidae), feed on unpalatable or poisonous plants as larvae.

Are moths also capable of transmitting diseases? Infested food by pantry moths could also contain silk webbing. Indian meal moths have not been known to transmit any diseases, parasites, or pathogens.

Another thing to consider is: Can a moth eat you?

Only a few moth species actually feed on humans. They won't bleed out a person or transmit infections. However, they can bite secondarily. They won't cause bleeding or transmit infection to humans, but a bite can lead to secondary infections.
